3) Andrea Dossena
Not that Dossena was terrible, but 6 mil on a leftback would generally get you a lot more than a couple of goals and a handful of defensive errors. More will be expected next season, but the signs at the end of the year were quite promising. We’ll see!
2) Ryan Babel
Knowing that Keane is going to be on the list, one might wonder why Babel is on here and Lucas isn’t. Here is the difference: Lucas was improving and showing promise whereas Babel was backtracking and showing he doesn’t give a rat’s arse. He might care, but it is hard to know it when you watch him. There is not enough effort and creativity from a man who is blessed with all of the tools and yet chooses to do all of his handiwork lazily and without variety. Very disappointing.
1) Robbie Keane
Oh Keane-o… what can be said here? Let’s start by saying “thank you” for the effort… but COME ON! 7 goals isn’t horrible, but what WAS horrible was the multitude of air-shots, clogging up Gerrard and Torres’ space at all times, sulking on the bench, missing easy chances, and basically being a waste of money. I still have time for the guy, as he is a good person, but as a player he just didn’t do it for us. His lack of goals was basically becoming a joke, yet the media showered him with love. Quite strange… but him leaving was the beginning of a lot of very good things for everyone involved. An expensive flop turned into a wash-out. Good business, really…
