The 0-3 loss to Espanyol today in pre-season is not one of those pleasant feelings, but it should not spark panic. There’s a few factors here. First, it is fair to say that we didn’t have our best players out for the whole match. And when we gave up two of those goals, we had a backline not containing most of our solid defenders, and you could tell. Secondly, Philipp Degen was playing. And third, it was Espanyol’s first night in their new stadium. So while we were playing a friendly pre-season game, they were opening up a new stadium to their fans… a definite difference as far as motivation.
But it still hurts, and let’s hope Wednesday’s fixture against FC Oslo goes better!!! A LOT better.
