Thank God Pre-Season is Over… Now Onto the Real Stuff! 1-2 loss to Atletico…

Another match in pre-season, and another disappointment, but then again… it is just pre-season and nobody should put much weight on these matches. It just stinks watching us lose these games and seeing United and Chelsea win all of them! But hey… they buy players and we sell them, so there you go! The 1-2 loss was not too pretty, and we have an injury to Carragher now to worry about. Rafa says it won’t impact his ability to play at Spurs, but with Agger and Skrtel already out, we cannot afford to have our youngsters out there. They’d get eaten alive by a fairly decent looking Tottenham attack. Anyhow, 1-2, and a goal from Lucas towards the end to make it more reasonable. As Rafa said, though, the first goal came when we had 10 men out on the field and Masch at centerback, and Forlan’s goal was just plain nice. So 1-2 isn’t horrible. It just is not ideal. And neither was selling Alonso. But bygones are bygones, and we need to press forward and work with what we have. We don’t have Champions League qualifiers to deal with, which is nice, meaning we can pour all of our focus for a few months into Premiership matches, starting with Tottenham away and Stoke at home. If we can grab 6 out of 6, nobody will say a word about our pre-season struggles, nor will they harp about Alonso’s absence. If we get anything less, expect a media backlash and a season full of BS. Nothing new there, but I’m just really hoping we can have a calm season on that front. Until then, there’s a week and a day until the opener and maybe we’ll regain fitness and be ready for the action. At least there is no pre-season left to annoy us!
