Alexandre Lacazette has confirmed what, in many ways, was the inevitable. He won’t be leaving Lyon this summer and he certainly won’t be joining Liverpool during the current transfer window.
The Reds have been linked with the prolific striker time and again this summer by SEO-happy tabloids, but now that surely won’t be the case until at least January, with the 24-year-old aiming to repay the faith shown in him by the French giants.
Lacazette scored 31 goals in all competitions last season, as Lyon finished second in Ligue 1, and is now eagerly awaiting his Champions League debut. He’s attracted interest from Paris Saint Germain, as well as a number of Premier League clubs this summer (via ESPN), but he’s today reiterated that he won’t be going anywhere.
In quotes taken by the Liverpool Echo, he said: “What people say doesn’t mean much. I can still work well. I can show everyone that my mind is not in another place. I have already told the head coach and the president that I want to stay in Lyon.

“I am fully committed to our project for this season. Whatever happens outside stays outside. Personally, I know what I want for this season. I was happy with the way our fans reacted during the game. I received a lot of messages that were, you could say, ‘mean’ on Twitter.
“That’s life, that’s football. I want to thank everybody that believes in me and supports me. Thank you to the public tonight. The best answer will be to have a great season and to prove to everyone that money is not what I am looking for. That’s football.”
This news is unlikely to come as a massive blow to many Liverpool fans, who know that the imminent signing of Christian Benteke had already ended any slim hopes we’d had of getting Lacazette.
Nonetheless, he’s a player that will be worth keeping an eye on over the next couple of months and seeing if his situation changes. After all, we do have a growing reputation for buying a lot of strikers!
