Jordan Henderson has told the Liverpool Echo that he always had confidence in manager Brendan Rodgers to turn things around at Anfield, despite a difficult end to last season which ended with a humiliating defeat at Stoke.
As the Echo states, the 6-1 loss at the Britannia Stadium in May led to a plethora of speculation over Rodgers’ future. However, our new captain insists that the boss never lost the faith of either the players or the owners.
“I wasn’t worried about anything changing,” Henderson said, when asked about the rumours which dominated the press during the early weeks of the summer break.
“I always knew the players had faith in Brendan. I believed that he had the full backing of the owners too. Brendan has been brilliant for this football club and I think he can take it even higher.”

Now, after a successful start to our pre-season campaign and the arrival of seven new signings, the confidence is starting to return among the Liverpool supporters. The emphasis will still be on Rodgers to start the season well but, if he can, then he’ll likely begin to win people over once again.
Rodgers had enjoyed an excellent relationship with Henderson over the last couple of year. He promoted him to the role of vice-captain last season, allowing him to work closely with long-serving teammate Steven Gerrard, before handing him the armband on a permanent basis this summer.
“He has been outstanding for certain individuals,” added Henderson. “I really do believe he has made us better, improved us as a team, he has got a philosophy and the way we want to play has grown.
“He had the full backing of the players from before Stoke and he still has now. It’s same with the club and the supporters as well.”
