(Video) Rickie Lambert scores twice for West Brom, hours after leaving Liverpool

This is pretty much the definition of irony – a striker scores three goals in twelve months, joins a new club and then scores twice within twelve hours of putting pen to paper on his contract.

In all fairness, it’s hard to begrudge Lambert his goals. He lived his dream by returning to his boyhood club last season and he will always savour that goal against Aston Villa, when he ran towards the supporters and was embraced by hundreds of Liverpool arms.

He’s far better suited to West Brom and, provided he doesn’t score against us, I’m sure we all wish him the best for the new campaign and hope that he gets the chances he still deserves at this level.

We’d much rather have kept the former Southampton man this summer than Mario Balotelli or Fabio Borini, who both remain at the club, but we can more than respect his decision to leave. He has an England place to try and play for and he’s only going to be on that plane to France next summer by playing and scoring regularly.

With that in mind, he couldn’t have made a much better start. You can check out his two goals in a friendly against former club Bristol Rovers in the video below – the first via a horrible deflection and the second a typically composed finish from the veteran forward…

Well done Rickie!
