In the third and final part of the Liverpool Echo‘s exclusive interview with Tom Werner, the Reds chairman rubbished suggestions that owners FSG could look to sell the club in the near future, insisting that the Americans are here for the long haul.
“I could spend a lot of my time swatting down rumours about how we’re supposedly looking to sell Liverpool. The reality is that we’re very much focused on taking the club forward,” he said.

Tom Werner expects Liverpool’s summer signings to have huge impact
FSG – or Fenway Sports Group – led by Werner and parter John W. Henry, purchased Liverpool back in October 2010, taking over control from the much maligned pairing of Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
They quickly set about turning the club around – sacking Roy Hodgson and bringing in iconic former boss Kenny Dalglish. The Scot led the Reds to a first major trophy in five years – the League Cup – and made several crucial signings, including Luis Suarez and Jordan Henderson.
After 18 months in the job, he would make way for Brendan Rodgers, who continued a revival which culminated in a second place finish in the Premier League back in 2014.
The owners have continued to invest heavily in the playing squad, with 16 first-team players coming in over the last two summers, including big money buys such as Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino.
This summer, the owners have also begun redevelopment work on Anfield’s main stand, a process which will make our famous old ground all the more impressive to those that visit us on Merseyside.
“We are very pleased with the path that we’re on,” Werner continued.
“We have strengthened the club both on and off the pitch. People doubted whether we would build a new Main Stand but I think anyone who has been around Anfield over the last week or two will know there’s no doubt that we are doing that. We’re delighted with how that project is progressing.
Moving forward, Werner hopes that Rodgers and co will be able to add further success to our already glittering history. After three years without a trophy, it’s vitally important that we put that right this coming season.
“We look forward to having more trophies to put in that trophy cabinet at the stadium,” he added, concluding the intriguing interview. “That’s what we’re focused on.”
