Italian champions Juventus could make a surprise move for Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva, according to reports in the Daily Express. However, former Reds stalwart Jan Molby is anxious for the Brazilian to remain at the club.
According to the Express, last year’s Champions League runners up are still looking to freshen up their midfielder before the close of the transfer window, having seen Arturo Vidal depart and so far missed out on Julian Draxler.
Juventus also lost veteran playmaker Andrea Pirlo during the summer, so while they have added to their squad with World Cup winner Sami Khedira from Real Madrid, they could well be tempted to pick up another decent option in Lucas – who was left out of our squad for the opening game of the Premier League season last weekend.

Nonetheless, Molby is desperate for Lucas to extend his eight season stay at Anfield. Speaking in his Liverpool Echo column this week, he said: “I really hope he stays because I still think he will have a part to play this season. It’s important you have a No.6 who is a proper No.6 and very much a team player – someone whose ambition is for the team rather than himself.
“I think there will be games where you need Lucas. I don’t see Emre Can playing that holding role. I don’t think he has the mindset or the discipline for it as he will feel he has more to offer further up the pitch.”
The Express also state that Inter Milan remain interested in Lucas, having been turned away by Brendan Rodgers when chasing him back in January, while the Metro think that West Ham could make a move as well.
