Jurgen Klopp was happy to admit today that Liverpool are already in conversation with a number of targets with a view to summer transfers.
This upcoming window is expected to be a huge one for the Reds, who have plenty of money and a manager keen to supplement his squad ahead of a European campaign of some description next season.
If we beat Middlesbrough on Sunday, we’ll have the Champions League to look forward to, but if we fail, it’ll likely be another season in the draining Europa League…
Klopp’s adamant that regardless of Champions League qualification, we’re well equipped to make some exciting moves in the market when it opens in June.
“The world is not full of players who will make us better immediately but clearly there are a few out there,” Klopp told BBC Sport.
“We have spoken to them.
“We have a really good side when our first 11, 12, 13, 14 players are fit.
“The Champions League, for different reasons, is a wonderful competition.
“You can earn a lot of money there – that is money we did not have last year. That is very interesting and is one part of it, but we are already in a good position.
“We are a club without financial problems and we have money to spend, but it makes sense to think before we spend and that is what we are doing.”
In the BBC article, four specific targets are mentioned: Kylian Mbappe, Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Ryan Sessegnon.
In our opinion there’s zero chance of Liverpool signing Mbappe, but Salah is a possibility if we agree to Roma’s likely lofty demands. Van Dijk is 50/50 depending on Chelsea and Sessegnon should arrive with Fulham failing in their promotion bid.
Two out of those four names would be nice, along with Naby Keita of Red Bull Leipzig.
