It’s claimed the left back has made up his mind and will return to his boyhood club—and could do so as soon as January.
Alberto Moreno isn’t expected to be at Liverpool next season with the 26-year-old left back’s contract expiring in the summer and widespread speculation that a return to La Liga is on the cards for a player whose defensive game never developed as hoped at Anfield.
Talk of joining Barcelona as the back up to Jordi Alba always seemed a touch fanciful, but regular suggestions he could return to boyhood club Sevilla have carried with them a certain ring of truth, and now Marca claim that he has made up his mind on the matter.
Once the season is over, if the Spanish outlet are to be believed, Moreno will join Sevilla. And it could happen even sooner, with Marca pointing to the struggles of Sevilla left back Guilherme Arana and Liverpool’s desire to recoup something from Moreno’s departure.
Moreno has decided on Sevilla and will agree a pre-contract as soon as he’s able. Sevilla could use a new left back sooner than later. And Liverpool wouldn’t mind an extra million or two. So a January move could be on. It all seems eminently reasonable, really.
Whether or not that means it will happen—and whether or not Moreno has even made his final decision on where he’ll be playing next season—is another question entirely, but as far as transfer rumours go, this one seems like it has a high likelihood of coming to pass.
