Thibaut Courtois Names Alisson As One Of Three Best Keepers In The World

The Chelsea stopper placed Liverpool’s star above even himself.

The vanishing few remaining Liverpool supporters who were still questioning the whopping £65m the Reds paid to bring goalkeeper Alisson Becker to Anfield have received all the answers they would have wanted over the past week of football.

A string of sterling performances from the Brazilian, from an unorthodox save and quick distribution to start the match-sealing counterattack against Burnley to an animal brain instinct save to deny a sure goal against Everton, have arguably saved his side a solid four points over the past seven days alone in a tight title race.

Already named as the best in the world in a recent poll, the 26-year-old has begun to receive accolades from his peers, including Real Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois.

Asked recently to name the three best shot stoppers in the world, the 2018 World Cup Golden Glove winner, named Alisson above himself—a sentiment shared by this columnist—listing his Liverpool counterpart alongside Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak.

“They are all great goalkeepers, but I do not know who is the best, I could not go for one,” Courtois admitted.

”It depends on the defence and also on the whole team, I think I have already shown that I am at a high level.”

…Right. About that last part.

Conspicuous in his absence from Courtois’ list is Manchester United’s David De Gea, whichyeah I guess that makes sense.

Either way, Jürgen Klopp and the Anfield faithful are feeling confident about the man patrolling between sticks for the first time in nearly a decade as Alisson continues to prove himself one of Liverpool’s smartest acquisitions.
