Just a short list of suggestions to keep yourself occupied before this completely inconsequential game.
Is there news to pay attention to right now? Are there other things happening in the world? Probably! But the chances of any of us caring or paying attention are slim to none. Still, wearing ourselves down with anxiety and terror is hardly the best way to spend our Sundays, so here’s a list of things we could all do in the hour before Liverpool and Manchester City step out onto the pitch.
Pick up needlepoint:
Jurgen Klopp’s quotes are legendary around these parts and what better way to take your mind off of City while focusing on the wonder that is Liverpool Football Club than by embroidering “I told my players during the break: Since we’re here anyway, we might actually play a bit of football” onto a tea cosy?
Read a book:
Want to feel superior to Pep Guardiola? Of course you do. Why not pick up a book and read it instead of focusing on Liverpool? We’ve heard books pair really well with hot drinks, so why not break out the hot chocolate or coffee, too? Indulge yourself.
Divert your anxiety:
Some of us are too nervous to do anything else so it’s probably time to take that anxiety and try to turn it into something more productive, like rage. And there’s no simpler way to do that than looking at pictures of Pep Guardiola’s most recent sartorial choices. If the dishwater gray cardigan doesn’t automatically make you furious, read a few articles calling him a “fashion icon” then come back to the monstrosity that is his current wardrobe.
Use the anxiety:
Sitting still is for people whose team (five points clear and a game in hand) aren’t about to play Manchester City. Go do the laundry. Put the dishes away. Make yourself a giant plate of french toast. Change the sheets.
And hey, at the end of the day, this is just another game.
