If the Reds decide not to move for Werner this summer, Inter could be set to seize the opportunity.
Sooner or later football will, in some fashion, return. And, some time after that, there will be another transfer window, another offseason, and the start of a new campaign. What is less clear, beyond the when at least, is just what shape those things will take.
The transfer window in particular could be interesting, with clubs concerned about finances and potentially holding off on any big deals. Despite that uncertainty, the rumour mongers have continued to talk up Timo Werner to Liverpool as something of a done deal.
However, today there’s at least an attempt to throw some doubt on that—beyond the whole not knowing when there’ll be a transfer window and what club finances will look like longer term—with the introduction of Inter Milan as a potential competitor.
At least according to Spanish outlet Sport, who claim that with Lautaro Martinez a target of Barcelona, Inter Milan are looking at Werner as a replacement—but only if Liverpool put off signing Werner this summer and the striker becomes available to them.
If Liverpool are determined to push through a deal, then, the story remains the same and the assumption remains that Werner will end up at Anfield in short order. If coronavirus uncertainty causes them to reconsider, though, Inter could move for him.
Hopefully, then, the coming weeks will begin to provide some clarity on how and when football will be able to return—and with that, some clarity on what clubs might decide to do whenever the offseason and transfer window arrive.
