Having won the Premier League with a month to spare, Liverpool’s players and manager have quite reasonably chosen to spend much of it partying in Ibiza and Dubai.
There’s no downtime in modern football, the fixture list at both the club and international level seemingly only getting more crowded every year and no end in sight with the bloated cash grab that is the month-long, 32-team Club World Cup this summer.
There are increasing signs of negative impacts of this, particularly when it comes to player health and late-season match quality, but nobody in charge really seems to care as long as that revenue line keeps pointing up and they get to enrich themselves ever more on the backs of over-worked labour.
So. What’s a club to do if they’ve won the league with a month to spare and don’t have any lingering cup commitments to worry about (speaking of, thanks for that, Plymouth Argyle)? It turns out the answer is simple: take the month off.
That’s what Liverpool appear to be doing, and you likely won’t find fans complaining about it. After winning the Premier League more than two weeks ago now—and having played two uneven games against Chelsea and Arsenal since then—we’re now into week three post-title win and, well, we’ll let the pictures and videos speak for themselves.
Arne Slot is in Ibiza, and Liverpool players are in Dubai. I think any analysis of recent Liverpool games has to take into account that they've literally been on holiday since winning the league title.

— The Liverpool Offside (@liverpooloffside.bsky.social) 2025-05-12T20:27:20.924ZTo be clear, all of this is a good thing. If you win the Premier League, you should get the chance to properly celebrate it rather than turning around and being forced to compete in the Nations League or some similarly bullshit competition three days later.
The players deserve some down time. They deserve a chance to indulge without worrying about the need to be at their physical peak 24/7. Though it does make it a little funnier that Arsenal in particular only managed a 2-2 draw against this lot over the weekend with the Reds the clear better side for long stretches.
Meanwhile, there’s at least one former Liverpool player also celebrating this week as Xherdan Shaqiri led FC Basel to the Swiss title—which is something it certainly looks like he’s going to enjoy to the fullest, too. You’ll Never Party Yacht Alone, lads.
So pleased for Xherdan Shaqiri, what a season he had at Basel. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/FyAKIP55Rj
