Sterling sets ‘the record straight’ regarding training sicknote

Raheem Sterling has completed his big money move to Manchester City under controversial circumstances, but the youngster insists the rumours about him pulling a sickie to get out of training are nonsense, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

He claims that he didn’t want to stoke the flames during the saga, and chose to keep quiet instead. It’s hard to take anything he says seriously though, and his story seems like nonsense.

“Everyone thought I threw a sicknote in. I was in training on the Tuesday – in the changing room my stomach started hurting. I still went out and trained though,” Sterling said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“That day I went home, and I told the doc I was ill. My stomach was rumbling and I had diarrhoea.

“The doctor just said to me you can’t be around the other players. For the next 48 hours, I stayed at home.

“That’s what the club doctor told me to do. When that 48 hours was done I came back to training as normal.”

As much as we may like the idea of Sterling being stricken with diarrhoea, his story seems too convenient. He was clearly trying to force through hist move to Manchester City, and had called time on his Liverpool career before he’d even been sold.

He has been thankful that he was given the chance to “set the record straight”, but the yarn he’s spun is unlikely to endear anyone to him any further.

“That’s exactly what happened. Everyone tries to make it seem bad but you’ve just got to take it on the chin,” he continued.

“I didn’t really want to add more fuel to the fire so I didn’t comment on it, but thanks for the opportunity to say what really happened and set the record straight.”

He is clearly driven by money, and Manchester City is therefore a good fit for him. We’ve secured a hefty fee in exchange for his services, and while it can be painful when players force their way out to join rival clubs, we have arguably got the better end of the deal.
