Liverpool struggled to find the net on a regular basis last season – scoring just 52 Premier League goals, well down on the 101 we netted in the previous campaign.

We were missing goals all over the pitch. However, the most notable absence was arguably goals from our defenders. Martin Skrtel, who struck seven times in our 2013-14 season, found the net on just one occasion last season.

Thankfully, the Slovakian looks to have rediscovered his scoring touch. At least, he has if this video is anything to go by. Check out the short clip below as the centre-back pounces on Mamadou Sakho’s inch-perfect cross and slams the ball in spectacular fashion into the top corner.

The Liverpool Echo compare the link-up between our two defenders to that of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge two years ago, dubbing them the new SAS. While that might be slightly premature, it’s still well worth a watch.

Hopefully we’ll be a little less reliant on our forward players this season…
