Liverpool starlet hoping to earn international recognition for the first time

Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward is hoping that his performances on loan at Aberdeen will be enough to earn him a call up to the Welsh national squad, who are currently flying high at the top of their Euro 2016 qualification group.

The 22-year-old, who is yet to make a senior appearance for Brendan Rodgers’ side but was an unused substitute in the Premier League on a number of occasions last season, has been a huge hit in Scotland – helping the Dons win their first three games of the new season, conceding just one goal in the process.

Ward, who is already a Welsh Under-21 international, is now hoping that a consistent run of games will help him catch the attention of Chris Coleman – who already has Wayne Hennessey as his first choice stopper.

In quotes taken by the Liverpool Echo, he said: “I speak to the goalkeeper coach at Liverpool and a couple of the other coaches twice a week as they are keeping an eye on my progress and it has all been positive so far, but there are always things that you can get better at, so I am looking to improve,” he said.

“It’s definitely an ambition of mine for the future (to play for Wales) and I think coming up here and playing games will do my chances no harm, hopefully I can keep on performing and stay in the Wales set-up.”

Ward joined Liverpool from Wrexham in 2012. He’s since become a regular with our youth team, while last season he spent time out on loan at League Two club Morecambe, where he made five appearances.
