Monday was an eventful night for Liverpool internationals, with Emre Can tallying an assist in his second cap for the World Champs, and Ibe, Gomez, Rossiter, and Ojo all featuring for England’s youth squads.
Liverpool midfielder and German right back Emre Can followed through on previous statements about wanting to add goals and assists to his game by doing just that in Monday night’s clash against Scotland. Can now joins Roberto Firmino on the list of “Possibly Psychic Reds.”
The assist was the result of a strong run into space at the top of the box, followed by a powerful first-time shot by Can. Though powerful, the shot was directly at Scotland’s keeper David Marshall. Marshall could only manage to parry the shot into Thomas Mueller’s path, which generally doesn’t end well. Of course, the result was a goal for Die Mannschaft, who went on to win the game 3-2, and maintain their spot at the top of Group D. Can played the full 90 in his second cap for Germany.
In other international news, Jordon Ibe and Joe Gomez both went 90 minutes for England’s U-21 squad as they kicked off their youth European championship effort. Gomez played right back, with Ibe ahead of him on the right wing. England defeated Norway 1-0.
And for England’s U-19 side, Sheyi Ojo and Jordan Rossiter both came off the bench in the 1-1 draw with Croatia.
