Coutinho admits convincing Roberto Firmino to sign for Liverpool

Coutinho played a role in persuading Roberto Firmino to leave Hoffenheim and sign for Liverpool this summer, the Daily Star reports.

Our original Brazilian playmaker, who’s been at the club since January 2013 when he signed from Inter Milan, spoke Liverpool up to his international team-mate, with whom he played the Copa America during the summer.

Klopp says, if needed, Liverpool will buy in January: ‘No problem’

“I don’t know if I had any influence on his arrival, but I gave him loads of incentive when I knew there was a possibility [of Firmino joining],” Coutinho told Sky Sports.

“I was in the national team with him and I told him: ‘You have to join’.

“The truth is, he’s a great player and I’m happy he is here.

“I am happy to be playing alongside these good players.

“As I always say being part of the national team in Brazil is a privilege and it is so hard to stay in the team because there are loads of players that are in Europe.”

It’s great to hear that our best players are spreading the word to some of our most exciting transfer targets.

The pair are expected to start today against Manchester City, and while Coutinho has regularly been a thorn in their side, it’d be great for Firmino to finally find the back of the net in a red shirt.

The 24-year-old has showed what he’s got fleetingly so far, but it’s clear he has the talent to stamp more authority and creativity on games.

Both Coutinho and Roberto Firmino should be in perfect shape to perform at the Etiahd, as they’ve had the benefit of two weeks training having not been selected by Brazil for the international break.

Brazil’s loss is our gain, of course, but it’s not time for the pair to show everyone what their country is missing.
