Klopp’s not scared of Sturridge playing for England: ‘There is absolutely no issue’

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp hasn’t got a problem with Daniel Sturridge being called up by England manager Roy Hodgson.

In fact, Klopp’s claimed Sturridge is fully fit, and is happy for the striker to play for his country in the upcoming international friendlies.

Of course, Sturridge has only recently returned from a series of debilitating injuries which ruined 18 months of his career, but thanks to Klopp’s patience and the player’s hard work, he’s starting regularly for Liverpool.

“We are always in touch with all the staff around the national teams, not only England,” Klopp told the Echo.

“But to be honest at this moment, there is absolutely no issue with Daniel Sturridge.

“He has trained for three, four, five weeks now, completely normal programme, no rest in a special situation.

“Everything is really okay.

“It’s absolutely the best moment since I have been here with Daniel so we don’t have to tell them (England) please have an eye on him and let him rest when all the others are training. No, no, no, Daniel is in really good shape.”

Klopp’s comments are positive in that they suggest Sturridge’s injury woes are perhaps behind him.

However, the striker’s run of appalling luck in terms of his health began at the start of the 2014/15 season whilst away with England – and we can only hope the international staff cater for his individual needs.

Klopp says Sturridge isn’t a special case, yet he subs the attacker before 70 minutes pretty much every game (occasionally to the player’s annoyance), proving that he’s still being cautious.

Sturridge hasn’t been exceptional since his return, but he’s still the most dangerous forward in our squad and walks into our best XI. Expect the Englishman to start today versus Southampton, although we doubt he’ll get a full 90.
