Liverpool boss discusses Henderson to Tottenham rumours

Jurgen Klopp’s comments when asked about Tottenham’s reported interest in Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson are unlikely to fill the midfielder with much confidence…

Instead of flatly declaring the skipper ‘not for sale’, Klopp strangely chose to suggest that any Liverpool player is available if they don’t want to stay at the club.

“I am pretty sure it is only a rumour (Tottenham) but if not and if a player – let’s not say Hendo but any player – comes to me and says he doesn’t feel comfortable and wants to leave, style of play, more money, then you always have to start thinking. That’s all I can say on this,” Klopp said, reported in the Daily Mail.

We cannot imagine Henderson has any desire to leave Liverpool, having been handed the captaincy last summer on the departure of Steven Gerrard.

An early injury stunted his campaign however, and despite seemingly possessing all the attributes to suit Klopp’s all-action style, Henderson has not shone in central midfield.

Still, we cannot imagine there’s any substance to these rumours. Spurs are rightly considered a rival, and we’re surely not going to sell our captain to the Londoners for that reason.

Henderson’s a very important member of the squad, but he has a job to keep his spot in the starting XI next term…

Marko Grujic, just called up by the Serbian national team, is arriving to challenge for a central midfield spot and there’s suggestions Klopp will move for the excellent Granit Xhaka (via the Mirror) as well.

Emre Can is an automatic selection at the moment thanks to superb recent form, so Henderson, despite wearing the armband, needs to up his game before the summer.
