Another week, another fitness update from Liverpool’s missing defender.
As long as Virgil van Dijk continues posting this reassuring updates on his health, I’m going to keep writing about them. With every new dispiriting loss that the Reds suffer, the longing only grows deeper for our missing Dutchman. The frustration of having the best player in the world out of the team indefinitely can really only be explained using increasingly more distraught cat memes, so I won’t try to put it into words.
It seems van Dijk is well aware of our collective trauma, because he keeps posting these video montages of his training to Instagram.
The weights keep getting heavier and the exercises more intense with each new video that he posts. And if you were worried that his extensive break from playing every week has made his legs weak, then have no fear. The very first frame of this video will effectively dispel any concerns on that front.
Having returned to Merseyside last week, van Dijk is doing his continued training at the new AXA training center, which apparently even has Liverpool branded weights.
Van Dijk is unlikely to step foot on a pitch for Liverpool this season, so these glimpses of the man in action are the most we’ll get until the summer. Still, to quote the man himself: “Another day. Another step closer.”
