New outlets report that the transfer of the Bayer Leverkusen fullback is nearly complete.
News has been trickling out from the usual, reputable sources that Liverpool are set to trigger the release clause of Bayer Leverkusen fullback Jeremie Frimpong. Following the confirmed exit of (formerly?) beloved Scouse right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, news almost immediately came out that the Reds were looking at the 24-year-old Dutch star to fill the void.
First came the confirmation that Liverpool have retained the services of Conor Bradley for another four years. Now we are hearing that Liverpool will trigger the £29.6m release clause for the player. He is said now set to headed to Merseyside to undergo a medical ahead of a transfer officially taking place and the signing of a five-year contract.
This is big news for several reasons. The Liverpool faithful are obviously anxious to see that important position filled — especially with the pre-Trent times still a not-so-distant memory. If it happens, it will also be the first big transfer deal of the Arne Slot-era. The club’s transfer department in recent years has made it a point to finish their transfer business early in the window so as to avoid those final day, Andy Carroll-esque panic buys. (Andy Carroll, by the way, a man still playing professional football. The more you know.)
With key stars Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk re-affirming their dedication to the club and Trent’s absence being swiftly dealt with, that leaves the whole summer to tackle any existing holes the club believes they need to fill.
As with how these things always work, the club has remained officially quiet about things, so there won’t be confirmation until the deal is done.
